What are the uses of Amlycure DS Capsule?

Aimil Amlycure DS Capsules are made to strengthen a weak liver and protect it from damage. They help with low hunger, poor digestion, burning in the chest and a bad liver test (LFT) report. Giloy, bhringraj, bhui amla and kalmegh go in at equal amounts, more than any other herb. Kasni and punarnava are added too. In time, hunger returns and the LFT report slowly improves.

• D.S. stands for Desired Strength. Most of the herbs go in as dried extracts. That's how about 4.8 grams of herbs fit inside one small capsule.
• Benefits: People recovering from jaundice or hepatitis get well sooner with it.
• Indications: Given when the body does not take in enough nutrition from food. It's also given alongside strong medicines that can harm the liver, like TB medicines.
• Dosage: 1 or 2 capsules, two or three times a day, for adults. Children from 7 to 12 years take 1 capsule twice a day.
• Side Effects: No serious side effects are known at the usual dose. It is best avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. People with high iron in the blood should skip it too, since the Punarnavadi Mandoor in it contains iron.
• Baidyanath Arogyavardhini Bati is often given along with it when the liver is swollen. It's a classical tablet with kutki as its main herb.
• Get an LFT done before you start. Those numbers give you something to compare with later.

Each capsule weighs about 620 mg. The weight shown next to each herb is how much of that herb is used before it is turned into extract:

• Guduchi (giloy): 500 mg
• Bhringraj (false daisy): 500 mg
• Bhuiamla (a small weed with amla-like fruits): 500 mg
• Kalmegh (green chiretta): 500 mg
• Tulsi (holy basil): 300 mg
• Kasni (chicory seeds): 300 mg
• Haritaki (harad): 300 mg
• Punarnava (hogweed root): 300 mg
• Revand Chini (rhubarb root): 200 mg
• Ghrit Kumari (aloe vera): 200 mg
• Amla (Indian gooseberry): 100 mg
• Jira (cumin): 100 mg
• Neem (neem leaves): 100 mg
• Sharpunkha (root of a wild indigo plant): 100 mg
• Pitpapda (a small field herb): 100 mg
• Patha (root of a climbing plant): 100 mg
• Vidanga (vavding berries): 100 mg
• Chitrak (root of a white-flowered shrub): 100 mg
• Kachur (white turmeric): 50 mg
• Nisoth (root of a creeper): 50 mg
• Yashtimadhu (mulethi): 50 mg

• Punarnavadi Mandoor (a classical punarnava-based medicine): 60 mg
• Kutaki (a Himalayan root): 40 mg
• Shwet Parpati (a classical white powder made from mineral salts): 20 mg
• Shankh Bhasma (conch shell ash): 10 mg
• Moolikshar (salt made from radish ash): 10 mg

The mix is then soaked in a boiled liquid made from lime water (chuna jal), Pippali (long pepper), Sharpunkha, Yashtimadhu, Makoya, Kalmegh, Devdali, Sigru (sahjan, drumstick seeds), Amla, Daruharidra (tree turmeric), Bhringraj, Arhar (pigeon pea plant), Mooli Swaras (fresh radish juice) and Ark Pushpa (aak flowers). A plain filler makes up the rest, and the shell is hard gelatin.

How These Ingredients Help Your Liver

• Kalmegh raises the hormone that makes a person feel hungry. It is bitter too, and so are kutki and neem. Bitter taste gets the stomach's digestive juices going.
• For the viruses that attack the liver, there are bhui amla and tulsi. Tulsi also brings down swelling in the liver.
• Kutki works on high LFT numbers and helps bring them back to normal.
• Damaged liver cells heal with help from kasni and mulethi.
• Punarnava, sahjan and revand chini protect liver cells from harm.
• Giloy builds immunity. That helps the body fight liver infections.
• Aloe vera keeps the stool soft so it passes easily. Harad helps the body turn food into energy.
