What are the uses of Ashwagandharishta?
Dhootapapeshwar Ashwagandharishta is an Ayurvedic tonic made to remove weakness in the body and stress in the mind. It helps when you feel tired all day, can't focus on work and don't sleep well at night. As the name says, ashwagandha root is the main herb. Kali musli, another root, comes next in amount. With regular use, tiredness goes down and thin people also start gaining weight properly.
Quick Facts:
- Ingredients — Mulethi and vidarikand help build strength. Arjun bark is there for the heart, and vach for the brain. Safed chandan, lal chandan and anantmool keep the body cool. Harad and nishoth stop constipation, while sonth, kali mirch, pippali and chitrak help digestion. Haldi, daruhaldi, manjishtha, rasna and nagarmotha go in too.
- It is an arishta. Most of the herbs are boiled together in water until a thick decoction is left. Once it cools, dhai flowers go in because they help it ferment, along with powdered dalchini, elaichi, tejpatta and nagkesar. Then it's sealed and left for about a month. A small amount of alcohol forms in it on its own during that time.
- Benefits — Useful for men who feel low on sexual strength and stamina. Regular use helps build both up again.
- Indications — Given for poor memory, restlessness, nerve weakness, the weakness that comes with old age, fainting spells, giddiness, headache, a disturbed mind and weak digestion.
- Dosage — Take 10 to 20 ml (2 to 4 teaspoonfuls) twice a day, with an equal amount of lukewarm water added to it.
- Side Effects — Nothing much is reported at the normal dose. Taking a lot more than that can cause acidity or a burning feeling in the stomach. It is avoided in pregnancy. People with an overactive thyroid are usually told not to take it, because ashwagandha can push thyroid levels up further.
- Dhootapapeshwar Brahmi Vati Suvarnayukta is often given with it when worry and nervousness trouble a person more than body weakness does.
- Cut down on tea and coffee in the evening and try to sleep at the same time every night. The tonic works slowly, so stay with it for a few weeks before deciding if it suits you.
