Product description

What are the uses of Asthiposhak?

Dhootapapeshwar Asthiposhak Tablet is an Ayurvedic medicine to strengthen bones that have turned thin and weak. It helps when bones get thinner with age, break easily after periods stop, or the back starts bending forward. Hen's eggshell ash and hadjod are used at double the amount of the other items. Ashwagandha, giloy and amla are added too. Taken regularly, it gives bones calcium and they slowly get strong again.

Quick Facts

  • It is a proprietary medicine. The recipe belongs to one company and isn't an old classical one, so no other brand sells this same mix. Each tablet has a thin coloured coating.
  • Benefits: Asthiposhak tablets are also given for a broken bone that hasn't joined even after weeks in plaster. In such cases the X-ray still shows a gap. These tablets help the two ends of the bone grow back together.
  • Indications: It is given for hair fall. Ayurveda links hair to bone, so when bones are weak, hair can fall more. Older men with weak bones take it too. It isn't only for women.
  • Dosage: Take 1 to 2 tablets, two or three times a day.
  • Side Effects: Most people have no trouble at the normal dose. In the first few days, a few people may get a little acidity or a heavy stomach from the guggulu. People who get kidney stones should avoid it, because it is rich in calcium.
  • For a fresh fracture, it is often given along with Dhootapapeshwar Lakshadi Guggulu, a tablet made to join broken bone.
  • Put a rubber mat on the bathroom floor and keep it dry. Many falls in older people happen there, and one fall can mean months in plaster.

Asthiposhak Ingredients: Eggshell Ash, Hadjod, Lac and More

Each tablet has 550 mg of active ingredients:

  • Kukkutandatvak Bhasma (hen's eggshell ash): 100 mg
  • Shodhit Laksha (laakh): 50 mg
  • Shodhit Guggulu, Dashamoola shodhit (guggulu gum): 50 mg
  • Asthisamhruta stem (hadjod): 100 mg
  • Arjuna stem bark (arjun chaal): 50 mg
  • Amalaki fruit pericarp (amla): 50 mg
  • Ashvagandha root (ashwagandha): 50 mg
  • Guduchi stem (giloy): 50 mg
  • Bala root (bala): 50 mg

Processed in: Babbool stem bark kwath (babool chaal kadha)

Colours: yellow iron oxide, black iron oxide and titanium dioxide. Preservatives: sodium methyl paraben and sodium propyl paraben.

Kukkutandatvak bhasma is ash made from hen's eggshells. The shells are cleaned and burnt until only a soft white ash is left. That ash is mostly calcium. Hadjod is the herb for helping broken bone join, and laakh does the same job. The guggulu gum brings down pain. Weak bones often come with tiredness and body ache, and ashwagandha and bala are there for that. Arjun, amla and giloy make up the rest. The whole mix is ground with a kadha of babool bark before the tablets are pressed. Babool is the tree whose twig a lot of people still use as a datun.

Do's and Don'ts While Taking Asthiposhak

What to Eat

Keep meals light and easy to digest. Ragi is very good here, since it has a lot of calcium. Wheat roti and red rice are fine as the main food. Moong and urad dal both work. Put drumstick (sahjan), chichinda, baingan and garlic in the sabzi. Cow's milk, cow ghee and white butter without salt are all good. For snacks, go for til, dates, amla, mango and kali kishmish. Drink lukewarm water.

What to Avoid

Cut down on chilli, extra salt and kasaila food. Don't eat rice from the new crop. Jau, green matar, karela and jamun are also not right for now. Leave out supari and kamal gatta. Food made with khar or cooking soda, like some dhoklas and pakoras, is best skipped. And don't have milk with salty food, like milk with namkeen or a salted paratha.

Lifestyle

A broken bone has to be kept still in plaster or a splint. Oil massage is fine, but not on the broken part. The rest of the body can be massaged gently with Baidyanath Mahanarayan Tel. Light exercise is good for weak bones, like a slow walk every day. Avoid heavy lifting and long hours of hard work, and that includes hard mental work. While on Asthiposhak tablets, eat and sleep at fixed times and don't stay up late. Go to the toilet when you feel the need. Holding it in is not good.
