Product description

What are the uses of Kanakasava?

Dhootapapeshwar Kanakasava is an Ayurvedic tonic made to control repeated breathlessness and an old cough. It helps when you pant on the stairs, your breathing makes a whistling sound and coughing fits come at night. Datura and adusa go in at double the amount of the other seven herbs. Mulethi is added for a sore throat. With regular use, chest phlegm loosens and comes out, and breathing gets easier.

Quick Facts:

  • Ingredients — Kateri, bharangi and talispatra are all used for cough and breathing trouble. Pippali and sonth are hot spices that help digestion. Nagkesar is also part of it.
  • It is an asava, so none of the herbs are boiled. They're crushed and soaked in water along with munakka and dhai flowers, and the dhai flowers start the fermenting. The vessel stays sealed for about a month. Some alcohol forms in it naturally in that time. None is added from outside.
  • Benefits — Helpful in bronchitis, when the air tubes inside the chest stay swollen for a long time. Hiccups that keep coming back also get better with it.
  • Indications — Given for a fever that has gone on for weeks, weight loss and weakness after a long chest illness, chest pain after an injury or strain, and nosebleeds.
  • Dosage — 10 to 20 ml, which is 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls, twice a day. Mix it with the same amount of lukewarm water before you drink it.
  • Side Effects — At the normal dose, most people notice nothing. Go above it and the datura can cause a dry mouth, headache, restlessness, sleepiness or an upset stomach. It is not given during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or to children under five. People with a fast heartbeat or a pacemaker should stay away from it. So should anyone with kala motia, the eye disease called glaucoma in English, because datura can make it worse.
  • Dhootapapeshwar Shwaskas Chintamani Rasa is often taken with it when colds and chest infections keep coming one after another.
  • Skip cold drinks and ice cream while you're on it, and don't eat curd at night. On dusty or smoky days, wear a mask when you go out.
