Product description

What are the uses of Khadirarishta?

Dhootapapeshwar Khadirarishta is an Ayurvedic tonic made to heal skin diseases and clean the blood. It helps with pimples on the face, boils that keep coming back and itchy skin. It is made mainly from khair wood, the same tree that gives the kattha used in paan. Devdaru wood is added in the same amount. With regular use, itching goes down and boils come up less often.

Quick Facts:

  • Ingredients — Babchi is a herb used for white patches on the skin. Daruhaldi brings down redness and swelling. Harad, baheda and amla, the three triphala fruits, keep the stomach clean.
  • It is an arishta, which means it is boiled first and fermented after. The two woods, babchi, daruhaldi and the triphala fruits are boiled down together in water. Dhai flowers are added after that to start the fermenting, with small amounts of powdered pippali, laung, jaiphal, elaichi, dalchini, tejpatta, nagkesar and kabab chini. It then stays sealed for about a month. The little alcohol in it forms during this time, and none is added from outside.
  • Benefits — Helps with skin problems that keep coming back, like eczema, psoriasis and ringworm, where the skin turns dry, flaky or patchy. It's also given when an itchy, flaky scalp is causing hair fall.
  • Indications — Given for worms in the stomach, gas and bloating, anaemia, a swollen spleen and small lumps that form under the skin. It also helps with cough and difficulty in breathing.
  • Dosage — 10 to 20 ml, that is 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls, twice a day. Mix it with the same amount of lukewarm water before drinking.
  • Side Effects — Most people don't face any trouble at the normal dose. Drinking it without water, or taking more than advised, can give a burning feeling in the stomach and chest. Pregnant women should stay away from it.
  • When the skin keeps getting infected and boils fill with pus, Baidyanath Gandhak Rasayan is often taken along with it.
  • Eat less fried and sour food while on it, and skip curd at night. Fish and milk in the same meal is a strict no, since Ayurveda says that mix makes skin problems worse.
