Product description

What are the uses of Saraswatarishta?

Dhootapapeshwar Saraswatarishta is an Ayurvedic tonic made to improve weak memory and keep the mind calm. It helps when you forget things said a while ago, can't focus on studies and get nervous over small things. It has four times as much fresh brahmi as any other herb. Shatavari and vidarikand are also added. With time, what you read stays in memory longer and studying feels easier.

Quick Facts:

  • Ingredients — Khus is added to keep the body cool, and harad keeps the stomach clean. Ashwagandha and vach support weak nerves. For better digestion there is adrak, saunf, pippali, laung, dalchini, elaichi and kulanjan. Giloy, behada, vidang, nishoth and nirgundi seeds complete the list.
  • It is an arishta. Brahmi and six other herbs are boiled in water till only a quarter of the water is left. Once the liquid cools, dhataki flowers are added to start the fermenting, along with the smaller herbs in powder form. The fermenting takes around a month and makes a little natural alcohol in it too.
  • A thin gold leaf is kept in the pot while the tonic ferments. Gold is believed in Ayurveda to be good for the brain, and having it there is said to make the herbs work better. But very little of the gold ends up in the finished tonic. It is the herbs that do the real work.
  • Benefits — Kids who stammer, or whose words don't come out clearly, are often given this tonic. Their speech slowly gets clearer over a few months.
  • Indications — Given for sleeplessness, a low mood that stays for days and a mind that gets tired quickly. Women going through mood swings around menopause also take it.
  • Dosage — 10 to 20 ml, which is 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls, twice a day. Mix it with the same amount of lukewarm water before drinking.
  • Side Effects — Most people take it without any trouble. Some get loose motions, gas or a mildly upset stomach, mostly when they take more than the dose. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should stay away from it.
  • For older people whose memory keeps getting weaker, Dhootapapeshwar Medhasagar Rasa is usually taken alongside.
  • Get seven to eight hours of sleep, more so at exam time. The brain stores the day's learning while you sleep, so staying up late wastes part of the effort.
