Product description

What are the uses of Yograj Guggulu?

Dhootapapeshwar Yogaraj Guggulu is an Ayurvedic tablet for joint pain, arthritis and gout. It helps when joints feel stiff on waking, the knees hurt climbing stairs, or the big toe suddenly swells and turns red. Triphala goes into it along with guggulu gum. It also has 20 herbs and spices, including kitchen items like hing, jeera and sarson. Taken daily, it eases stiffness and swelling, and walking gets easier.

Quick Facts

  • It is a guggulu, which means its base is a tree gum. The tree grows wild in the dry parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Cuts are made in its bark, and the gum that comes out dries into brownish lumps. This gum holds the herbs together in each tablet.
  • Benefits — It also helps when many small joints of the hands and feet swell up at the same time. With this kind of joint trouble, the body feels heavy and there's hardly any hunger.
  • Indications — Given for vata problems like lower back pain, a stiff neck and a shoulder that hurts when the arm is raised. It is used in epilepsy (fits) as well, along with the regular fit medicines and never instead of them.
  • Dosage — 2 to 4 tablets at a time, two or three times a day. After meals is the best time. Swallow them with Maharasnadi Kadha, honey or lukewarm water.
  • Side Effects — Heat is the main one. Taking more than advised can bring burning in the stomach or chest and sour burps, mostly in people who already get acidity. At the normal dose, most people feel nothing like this. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should not take it.
  • For knees that have worn down over many years, Dhootapapeshwar Bruhat Vata Chintamani Rasa is often taken along with Yogaraj Guggulu.
  • Extra body weight presses on the knees with every step. Losing even a few kilos makes walking hurt less.

After the gum, triphala makes up the biggest part of Yogaraj Guggulu. Harad, baheda and amla clear the bowels every morning. The long list of hot spices has a different job. Sonth, pippali, pipramool, chavak, chitrak and ajmod help food digest fully. Joint pain has a lot to do with digestion in Ayurveda. Half-digested food leaves a sticky waste behind, and that waste settles in the joints as swelling and stiffness. Sambhalu seed brings down pain and swelling. And bach is added for the brain and nerves.

Do's and Don'ts While Taking Yograj Guggulu

What to Eat

Old rice, meaning rice stored for a year or more, is lighter on the stomach than new rice. Kulthi dal (horse gram) is good for joint pain. For vegetables, pick karela, chichinda (snake gourd), baingan and sahjan (drumstick). Garlic and fresh ginger can go into daily cooking. Buttermilk is fine. Drink lukewarm water through the day in place of cold water. A little castor oil in warm water at bedtime, now and then, keeps the bowels clear.

What to Avoid

Curd, fish, urad dal and jaggery. Milk is on this list too, which surprises many people. So don't take a Yograj Guggulu tablet with milk out of habit. Heavy, oily meals and alcohol are also out.

Lifestyle

Dry heat suits stiff joints. Warm a cloth bag of rock salt or sand on a tawa and hold it on the joint for 10 minutes. Skip the heat if the joint is red and hot, the way it gets in a gout attack. Gently apply AVP Pinda Tailam on that joint instead, as it cools the burning. Fasting helps too. Once a week, skip dinner or have just a thin moong dal soup. For pain that has lasted years, a herbal lep on the joint and the bowel-cleaning treatments done at Ayurvedic centres, like a herbal enema, also help. Late nights and smoking make joint pain worse. Cut both out.
