What are the uses of Chandanasava?
Dhootapapeshwar Chandanasava is an Ayurvedic tonic made to calm burning urine and extra body heat. It helps when urine stings, you go again and again but it won't flow freely, and it feels like some is still left. It is known for white sandalwood, which has a cooling nature. Red sandalwood and khus add to the cooling. With regular use, the burning goes down and urine flows freely.
Quick Facts:
- Ingredients — Kamal flowers, padmak wood, and mulethi are cooling herbs too. Manjishtha is there to clean the blood. Lodhra, priyangu and mochras (the gum of the semal tree) help stop unwanted discharge. Chirayata, pittapapda, patha and parwal leaves are bitter herbs that bring down heat, while nagarmotha, pippali and kachur help with gas and a heavy stomach. Rasna and the bark of bargad, aam, kachnar and gambhari are also in the mix.
- It is an asava, which means the herbs are never boiled. They are crushed and soaked in a big jar of sweetened water, and munakka and dhai flowers go in to start the fermentation. The jar stays sealed for about a month. The fermenting also makes a small amount of natural alcohol in it.
- Benefits — Men troubled by frequent nightfall, or a white sticky discharge coming out with urine, take it too. Over a few weeks it helps bring this under control.
- Indications — Given as a tonic for the heart, to build strength in a weak, thin body and to bring back a lost appetite.
- Dosage — 10 to 20 ml, which is 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls, twice a day. Mix it with the same amount of lukewarm water before drinking.
- Side Effects — Most people take it without any trouble. Taken on an empty stomach, or in bigger amounts, it can upset the stomach or cause acidity. It is best avoided in pregnancy.
- Baidyanath Chandraprabha Vati is commonly taken with it when urine infections keep coming back.
- Keep sipping water through the day so the urine stays light in colour. Go easy on chillies, pickles and fried food until the burning settles.
