Product description

What are the uses of Kutajarishta?

Dhootapapeshwar Kutajarishta is an Ayurvedic tonic made to control loose motions with mucus and blood. It helps with cramps and frequent trips to the toilet, mucus or blood in the stool, and a stomach that stays upset for months. It is made mainly from kutaja tree bark. Next to kutaja, munakka is used the most. With regular use, the stool slowly becomes firm and the mucus and blood reduce.

Quick Facts:

  • Ingredients — Gambhari bark helps food digest properly and eases pain in the stomach. Mahua flowers give back the strength a person loses after days of loose motions.
  • It is an arishta. Every herb except dhai is boiled in a big pot of water till only a quarter of the water is left. Dhai flowers go in once this liquid is strained and cooled. They start the fermenting, and they also help stop loose motions and bleeding. The pot stays sealed for a month, and the fermenting leaves a small amount of natural alcohol in it.
  • Benefits — Helps when fever comes with the loose motions, which often happens with a stomach infection. Hunger that went away during the illness starts coming back too.
  • Indications — Given for dysentery with blood in the stool. Also given for a weak gut that stays weak for a long time, where food passes out half digested. This is close to what is now called IBS.
  • Dosage — 10 to 20 ml, that is 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls, twice a day. Mix it with the same quantity of lukewarm water before you drink it.
  • Side Effects — Nothing much at the normal dose. Taking more than that can cause constipation. Some people feel a little like throwing up after a dose. Pregnant women should keep away from it.
  • People whose gut trouble has gone on for months and left them thin and weak are often given Baidyanath Swarna Parpati along with it.
  • Loose motions make the body lose water fast. Keep sipping ORS, coconut water or thin buttermilk through the day, and stick to plain khichdi or curd rice till the motions settle.
