What are the uses of Ushirasav?
Dhootapapeshwar Ushirasav is an Ayurvedic tonic made to control bleeding caused by too much body heat. It helps when the nose bleeds again and again, blood comes with stool or urine, and the body feels a constant burning. This medicine is known for its cooling khas root. Lotus flowers and munakka go in with it. With regular use, the heat inside comes down and the bleeding slowly stops.
Quick Facts:
- Ingredients — Lodhra, mochras, jamun bark and the barks of bargad and gular work against the bleeding. Manjishtha, chirayta and pittapapda clean the blood. Kachur and patha help digestion. Padmakh, priyangu, gambhari, dhamasa, kanchanar bark and parwal leaves go in as well.
- It is an asava, which means none of the herbs are boiled. They are powdered and soaked in water, and red dhai flowers are added to start the fermenting. The pot is then sealed and kept untouched for close to a month. The fermenting makes a little alcohol by itself. None is added from outside.
- Benefits — Also taken by women who bleed very heavily during periods. It helps bring the flow down.
- Indications — Given for low blood, where a person looks pale and gets tired quickly, for common skin problems, and for swelling in the body.
- Dosage — 10 to 20 ml, or 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls, two times a day. Add the same amount of lukewarm water before drinking.
- Side Effects — Most people take it with no trouble at the usual dose. Too much at once can irritate the stomach. In some women, taking it for a long time without a bleeding problem can make periods come late. Pregnant women should keep away from it.
- For bleeding that keeps coming back, Dhootapapeshwar Mouktik (Mukta) Pishti is added alongside. It is made from pearl and cools the body as well.
- Cut back on chillies and fried food until the bleeding settles down. Coconut water and sweet fruits are good to have during this time.
- Blood in stool or urine, or very heavy bleeding, needs a doctor’s check-up; do not rely on this tonic alone.
