Buy Ayurvedic Medicine for Fever
Fever means your body temperature has gone above its normal level. It isn't a disease on its own. It's a sign that something inside, most often an infection, needs attention.
Every product above is used in Ayurveda for fever and infection. Pick the fever medicine that suits your symptoms. Falling sick too often? Our Immunity Booster page can help as well.
How Ayurveda Fever Medicine Works
In Ayurveda, fever starts in the stomach. Weak digestion leaves food half digested, and this waste blocks the body's channels. Sweat can't come out, so the heat stays trapped and spreads. Treatment works on both problems. It clears the waste and brings the heat down.
Fever can come from vata, pitta or kapha. That's why the medicine has to match the type of fever. A flu with a runny nose and a heavy head is treated with a cold and fever medicine. If a cough has come along too, you need an ayurvedic medicine for fever and cough instead. Cough without any fever? See our Cough & Respiratory Care page.
Diet and Eating Habits for Fever Patients
What should a fever patient eat?
Eat only when you feel hungry. Don't force food. In Ayurveda, the first day is often kept to warm liquids alone, so the stomach gets some rest. After that, small meals every few hours work better than three big ones. Moong dal khichdi, rice kanji, dalia and soft-cooked lauki or carrot are easy to digest. Keep water or ORS close and take small sips often, more so if you're sweating a lot. Fried, spicy and packaged food can wait till you're better.
After the fever goes, what to eat?
Your digestion stays weak for a few more days. So keep eating light for two or three days after the temperature is back to normal. Then bring back soft roti, dal, sabzi and paneer, a little at a time. In Ayurveda, heavy food eaten too soon is one reason a fever returns.
Tap a food to see if it fits your fever diet. The colour tells you at a glance: green is safe, amber needs care, red is best avoided.
Fruits
BananaYes, by day
A ripe banana is soft on the stomach and puts back the potassium you lose in sweat. If the fever came with a cold, have it in the daytime only.
Orange and mosambiYes
Both give vitamin C and water at the same time. Fresh juice is fine, but skip the ice. If your throat is sore, the sourness can sting, so go slow.
MangoAfter the fever
Ayurveda sees mango as heavy and heating, and it's very sweet too. A weak stomach struggles with it. Keep it for when you've fully recovered.
Food
EggsBoiled, yes
Eggs give protein, and the body needs protein to repair itself after fever. Have them boiled, or as a soft bhurji with very little oil.
CurdButtermilk instead
Ayurveda keeps curd away during fever. It is heavy and sour. Thin buttermilk with roasted jeera is much lighter and still gives the good bacteria.
ChickenSoup only
A thin chicken soup is light, warm and easy to drink when you don't feel like eating. Spicy chicken curry is too heavy for now.
Drinks
Coconut waterYes
It is one of the best drinks to stop the body from drying out during fever. One or two glasses a day is plenty.
MilkWarm, a little
Warm milk with a pinch of haldi suits many people. But if the fever comes with loose motions, or milk feels heavy, leave it out for now.
Cold water and cold drinksBest avoided
Ayurveda gives warm or boiled water in fever, never chilled. Cold drinks also carry a lot of sugar. Room-temperature water is the better swap.
When to See a Doctor
A normal viral fever goes in two or three days. If yours hasn't, see a doctor. Go sooner if you notice any of these:
- A stiff neck or a very bad headache
- Rash, red spots or bleeding gums
- Fast, hard breathing
- Confusion or a fit
- Very little urine
Babies under three months with any fever need a doctor the same day.

FAQs on Fever
Why It Comes
Why fever comes?
It's the body fighting back. When germs get in, the brain gets a signal and pushes body heat up. Many germs can't grow well in that extra heat. Heat stroke and some vaccines can raise it too, with no germs involved.
Why fever comes at night?
Body heat rises a little every evening anyway. And cortisol, a hormone that keeps the body's defence in check during the day, falls at night. The body then fights germs harder, and the temperature climbs. Evening fever for weeks, with night sweats, needs a TB test.
Why fever comes again and again?
Most of the time, the infection that caused it is still inside the body. A cold and fever medicine only lowers the temperature for a few hours. It does not kill the germs. So when its effect ends, the fever comes back. Malaria, typhoid, TB and urine infection are common reasons. A blood or urine test can find the cause. In Ayurveda, Dhootapapeshwar Jayamangal Rasa Gold is used for fever that keeps returning.
What infection causes high CRP?
CRP is a protein the liver makes when there's swelling or infection inside. Bacterial infections push it highest, often past 100 mg/L. Pneumonia, a kidney infection and an abscess (a pocket of pus) are common examples. A cold or flu usually raises it only a little.
Can fever spread from one person to another?
The fever itself doesn't, but the germ behind it can. Flu, cold and chickenpox spread through coughs and touch. Malaria and dengue don't pass directly between people. A mosquito carries them from one person to the next, so keep the patient under a mosquito net.
Temperature
How much fever is normal?
About 98.6°F (37°C), though it moves between 97°F and 99°F through the day. Fever starts at 100.4°F (38°C). Below that, there's no need to rush for fever medicine. Rest and water are usually enough. If it goes higher, with a runny nose and body ache, Dhootapapeshwar A Flu O Cil Forte is made for that kind of flu fever.
How much fever is high?
Above 102°F (38.9°C) is high. At 103°F (39.4°C), an adult should see a doctor, more so if fever medicine hasn't brought it down in an hour or two. At 104°F (40°C), go to a hospital.
What infection causes a low body temperature?
Sepsis. This is when an infection spreads into the blood and the whole body reacts. Body heat can fall below 96.8°F (36°C) instead of rising. It's seen more in newborns, older people and anyone with weak immunity. It's a worse sign than a high fever. Treat it as an emergency.
How to check fever correctly at home?
Use a digital thermometer under the tongue or in a dry armpit. An armpit reading is about 0.5 to 1°F lower than the mouth. Wait 20 minutes after eating or a bath before checking.
Body Effects
Can fever increase heart rate?
Yes. Every 1°C (about 1.8°F) rise adds roughly 10 beats a minute, and it settles as the temperature falls. Typhoid is the odd one. There, the pulse often stays slower than expected. A pounding heart with chest pain needs a doctor straight away.
Can fever cause death?
Fever by itself rarely does. What's causing it can. Dengue, malaria and brain fever (meningitis) can turn serious fast. Body heat above 106°F (about 41°C), mostly seen in heat stroke, can harm the brain. In small children a fast-rising fever may bring a fit. Usually harmless, but get the child checked.
Can fever delay periods?
It can. A strong fever stresses the body, and that upsets the hormones running the monthly cycle. A delay of a few days to a week is common. If your period is more than two weeks late after the fever is gone, do a pregnancy test or see a doctor.
Can fever cause urine infection?
Not directly. It's usually the reverse. A urine infection, once it reaches the kidneys, brings fever. But fever makes you sweat and lose water. Urine turns less and darker, and germs grow more easily in it. Drink more water. If passing urine burns, get it tested.
Why is there body pain in fever?
While fighting germs, the body releases chemicals that also make the muscles ache. The pain eases as the temperature drops. Bad joint pain or pain behind the eyes can mean dengue, so get a blood test.
Home Care
Can we take bath in fever?
Ayurveda says no full bath while the fever is on. Cold water makes you shiver, and shivering raises the temperature. Wipe the body with a cloth dipped in lukewarm water instead.
How to reduce fever at home?
Rest, wear thin cotton clothes and skip the heavy blanket. A warm kadha of tulsi, ginger and black pepper is an old Ayurvedic home remedy. If the fever stays high, get treatment.
Is sweating good or bad in fever?
It's good. Sweating usually means the fever is breaking, and Ayurveda sees it the same way. Just don't pile on blankets to force it, and change out of wet clothes quickly.
